Review from the Starz Originals DVD

Even though it has often been criticised or even ignored by the critics you simply can't put the slasher genre down.

GOING TO PIECES: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE SLASHER FILM is based on the excellent book by Adam Rockoff. This 90 minutes documentary features tons of clips and interviews on the slasher genre we all bloody love. Inspired by the theater of the Grand Guignol in France, the horror genre has been a continuing money making business. While PEEPING TOM and PSYCHO laying down the ground for the genre, with HALLOWEEN John Carpenter took it to another level.

This must see documentary features some very interesting infos featuring movies from BLACK CHRISTMAS, GRADUATION DAY, TERROR TRAIN, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE, FRIDAY THE 13TH, PROM NIGHT, HE KNOWS YOU'RE ALONE, SLEEPAWAY CAMP, APRIL FOOL'S DAY, SCREAM and more. It separated in various chapters, each taking a specifics look at a movie or a vital element to the slasher genre. While it is not as extensive and detailed as the book this is one of the best horror documentary ever.
