Review from the VHS Screener

Winner of the Rob Zombie Best Horror Film in Houston contest that was held earlier this year over at his web site, after watching DRAIN U i easily understood why it won. Rob is a big fan of Tobe Hooper's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and so are his fans. Well if Hooper never made TCM, DRAIN U would surely never have been.

The lovely Kasey Solley is a runaway, fleeing from her abusing boyfriend. She finally manages to get a ride from one of the local named Hank (Travis Ammons giving the film's best performance). When things finally looks like they're going to be better for poor 'ol Kasey, Hank attacks and drugs her. He wants her to pay a visit to his dear mother who happens to run a blood bank.

Arriving at home, Momma (played by Rochelle Mellon) was anticipating the return of her son. We get to meet the rest of the familly, Albert the drag queen, Rufus the drug addict (Shannin Pickard and Kory Angelo giving the poorest performances) and the mentally defective Delbert (Warren Stapleton) who falls in love with Kasey and want to keep her alive.

The blood bank is running low and since it happens to be Halloween's eve, the boys are out for a little trick and treat and hack and slash.

Shot on DV, Clint Milby delivers a good little homage to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The film is devoided of gore, sex and there's little blood but still remains enjoyable. It would be interesting to see what Milby would be able to do with a bigger budget.
