Review from the Shameless Screen Entertainments DVD

Two young, sexually-free hippies, Dick (everyone's favorite Ray Lovelock) and Ingrid (the delicious Ornella Muti) finance their travels by selling naked snaps of Ingrid until their plan is brought to an abrupt end by the Police. Forced on the run the two seek refuge at a seemingly empty isolated large villa. As it turns out the house is inhabited by the middle-aged Barbara (Irene Papas) who invites them in for some potential three-way hanky-panky that soon locks them into something far more twisted and chilling!

Also known as DIRTY PICTURES this long lost sexploitation thriller from Umberto Lenzi (NIGHTMARE CITY, CANNIBAL FEROX) is finally available on DVD. Unlike what most have claimed, this is not a Giallo but a character driven film, which will have you guess on everyone's fate until the very end.

For me it is always a pleasure to watch a film with Ray Lovelock, which I first discovered ages ago in THE LIVING DEAD AT MANCHESTER MORGUE. As for his co-star Ornella Muti, unfortunately for her she is probably best known as Princess Aura (Daughter of Ming The Merciless) in the 1980 FLASH GORDON movie.

OASIS OF FEAR is presented for the first time on DVD and it is uncut. Multiple sources were used to make the most complete version of the film and the quality of the transfer varies throughout. Some scenes were never filmed in English and these scenes are in Italian with English subtitles. Don't expect a pristine flawless transfer but at least we get a complete version of Umberto Lenzi's film. The Dolby Digital Mono English audio track sounds more like something you would expect for an older VHS tape then a DVD.

The film is separated in 12 chapters. There's the trailer for the feature film but also for other Shameless DVD releases such as STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER, BABA YAGA, WATCH ME WHEN I KILL, TORSO, THE FRIGHTENED WOMAN and THE DESIGNATED VICTIM. This DVD also features a fact track by genre writers Kevin and Nicolas Wilson that plays as text at the bottom of the screen. The main menu is animated and with music. As always, Shameless double side their more recent DVD releases cover. The disc comes in a yellow keep case with a booklet or inlay card.
